Glacier-Waterton: exploring Whitefish

After eating a very full breakfast at the hotel (there's even a waffle maker!), headed back to the 24-hour supermarket to pick up tea bags. Worth the extra weight to have something other than generic hotel tea bags.

There's an art fair in a downtown park for the July 4th weekend. Even cycling slowly and stopping for a yard sale, I still arrived to the fair before it officially started at 10 am. Most of the vendors were already set-up, so, I enjoyed walking around the different booths. My favorite was a booth solely of insects pinned in framed, glass cases. There were so many beautiful creatures! There was also a weaver with many beautiful rugs, as well as numerous booths of nature paintings and photographs. Of course, I had to to taste a variety of samples. I ended up purchasing kombucha. It is so dry, that I've been much more thirsty.

Afterward, I walked around town to a small yet colorful yarn shop, a well organized thrift store, and the train museum housed in the Amtrak Depot. The "Empire Builder" train stops in Whitefish on its way from Seattle to Chicago. The depot is still the original Tudor style from 1920. The museum is one room in the depot crammed full of paraphernalia. Around the top of the room, a model train runs a loop along the walls.

My friend met me for some lunch at a food truck park. Then, we went back to the art fair to browse some more. So many unique, niche artisans! I also bought some chocolate just before we left (so that it would have less chance to melt before heading back to the hotel).

This evening was our official first day of our cycling tour,  so we finally met our tour leader and other cyclists!  We are a small group, totally 10 (including the tour leader). During the meeting, we went over maps for the following day. Then, we walked over to China Wall for dinner. It's my first time doing an "inn-to-inn" style tour where we have to carry all of our stuff but stay in hotels every night.

  1. “Inn-to-inn. That sounds like a nice way to travel. Whitefish seems to be an interesting town. Is your tour all on paved road or are there some short stretches of gravel? Dad
